I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted this Mencía from Bierzo with such an original name. Natalia de la Calle from Vinolé, although she is not the winemaker, is the person behind this nice and interesting project.
It has quite a complex nose, very flowery and some toffee notes. In the palate it is ample, full bodied and carries that crisp and fresh acidity of most wines from Bierzo that balances perfectly the alcohol and the tannins. The aftertaste evidences even more the flowery character of the wine. It is soft and velvety although still very young. Pleasant, well balanced and relatively long. I truly believe that Mencía is a grape with great future.
